LARKANA, April 4 The chairperson of Pakistan People's Party (Shaheed Bhutto), Ghinwa Bhutto, has said the 18th amendment is no answer to people's problems because, adding that there is no difference between the present parliament and Gen Zia's Majlis-i-Shoora which endorsed Z.A. Bhutto's execution.

Addressing a gathering held to mark the 31st death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto on Sunday, she said that today's PPP was not the true PPP because it had surrendered to the US and had lost the status of being a party of the people.

She told her supporters that it was their duty to restore the party's original spirit because Z.A. Bhutto had laid down his life for the people of Pakistan.

Ms Ghinwa said that the people should not expect any good from the present parliament.

She said the 18th amendment did not guarantee rights of provinces, adding that her party would support only those amendments which guaranteed people's control of police and revenue departments.

She said that there was a demand for fresh elections but equally important was the need unite the people and prepare for change.

She called for following the teachings of Z.A. Bhutto and said their party had awarded tickets to the poor in the light of Bhutto's manifesto.

Meenhon Khan Rind, president of the Sindh chapter of PPP-SB and Sindh National Front vice-chairman Amir Bakhsh Bhutto said that the sacrifice of Z.A. Bhutto had catapulted the PPP into power.

They said that the PPP was in the wrong hands. The people who opposed the trial of Begum Nusrat Bhutto had themselves kept her in confinement and not allowed her to meet Mir Murtaza Bhutto's children, they alleged.
