KARACHI, Aug 15: Sindh lifted the PTCL Cup national cadet and junior boxing championship titles claiming thirteen medals at KPT Sports Complex Wednesday.

The boxers from the province dominated in both the categories, grabbing two gold and as many silver and bronze medals in junior contest to secure 12 points.

Karachi Port Trust (KPT), though, also mustered 12 points, finished runners-up with just one gold, four silver, and one bronze medals.

Sindh pugilists displayed their prowess in the cadet class, clinching three gold, two silver and two bronze medals to accumulate 15 points. Balochistan, with 10 points and two gold, one silver and two bronze medals, were the runners-up.

KPT’s Wali Mohammad Qambrani won split-decision against Balochistan’s Mushtaq Hussain to earn gold medal in the 48kg cadet class bout after a close 7-6 victory.

Balochistan’s Mohammad Ali, declared the best cadet boxer, struck the 39kg gold in style following a 16-3 thrashing to Sindh’s Zubair.

Sindh’s Jabran, who booked the final berth after a bloody fight against Punjab’s Nisar Sona that ended in a 22-21 win for the Sindh boxer, lost to Punjab’s Adeeb Asghar 11-7 in 42kg.

Remaining cadet class bouts did not provide much fireworks as they proved to be one-sided affairs.

Likewise, all the seven golds went easy way in the juniors category with the winners outclassing their rivals to notch-up facile victories.

The best junior boxer, Pakistan Army’s Imran Khan, grabbed the light-welterweight gold with a 33-14 triumph over Shabbir Baloch of KPT.

Army’s Mudassir Nazar, who gave a severe beating to NWFP’s Saiman Javed in the light-flyweight semifinal, was treated the same way by Sindh’s Shoaib Rasheed in the final.

Mudassir, who had stormed into the final after referee stopped the semifinal against Saiman, lost the final almost in a similar fashion when the referee intervened in the opening round.

KESC’s Shahid Khan grabbed the flyweight gold, slamming KPT’s Ali Mohammad and forcing the referee to stop the fight in the first round.

KPT’s lightweight Ghadeer Ali’s aggressive run was finally broken by KESC’s Mohammad Ali whose punching ability resulted in the fight being stopped in the second round.
