PESHAWAR, Aug 15: Torrential rain lashed many parts of the province on Wednesday, killing a minor girl in Lower Dir and causing damage to houses, the irrigation system, roads, and standing crops.

The rain which started early in the morning inundated the low-lying localities in the provincial capital. Kutcha houses in Mathra, Qazi Kali, Sardar Garhi, Larama and other villages suffered damage when water level rose in Budhani canal and other channels in the suburbs of Peshawar, police said.

The tributaries of River Kabul were also flowing in high flood.

The rainwater submerged the Peshawar-Charsadda Road, disrupting the traffic between the two districts for many hours.

Our Correspondent from Timergara adds: A minor girl, whose name could not be known, died when her house collapsed in Talash, Lower Dir.

Many a cattle-head were killed in many flood-hit areas .

The district Nazim, Dr Mohammad Yaqoob Khan, who visited the affected areas, appealed to the provincial government to assist the sufferers and declare the district calamity-hit.

Reports gathered from different parts of the district said that many houses were collapsed and the floodwater washed away farm-to-market roads in Talash and Jando. Maskeen Dara was cut off from the rest of the country.

The floodwater entered the Shamshi Khan Kali and Khat Kali areas, destroying around 20 houses and a marble factory, and killed a large number of livestock.

Special drains were washed away in Ibrahimzai area of the Hangu district. The rain also destroyed the link roads in the area.
