PESHAWAR, Aug 15: The NWFP chapter of Awami National Party announced on Thursday that it has not entered into election alliance with any party at the provincial level.

The district organizations of the party have been authorized to negotiate seat adjustment deals with other parties and groups. “However, final approval to the seat-to-seat adjustment deals at the district level would be inked by the party’s provincial cabinet,” said ANP’s provincial president, Begum Nasim Wali Khan, on Thursday.

Briefing newsmen on Thursday about the decisions taken at the party’s provincial executive council meeting, she said the ANP had not entered into an election alliance at provincial level.

She said that the party’s office bearers at the district level had been directed to enter into electoral alliances with other political forces keeping in line with the spirit of the ANP’s line of action and principles.

She told newsmen that her party was in touch with the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal to develop understanding for the election. However, she said, the ANP and Pakistan Muslim League had no contact on the issue.

She termed ANP entering into an election alliance with the Grand National Alliance out of question.

“We will not join hands with any political or electoral alliance which involves  Ajmal Khattak (who ANP and established his own political party),” said Nasim Wali.

Replying to a question, the NWFP ANP president said here party was against the religious parties for their  support to Taliban and interference in the internal affairs of Afghanistan. Now that the Taliban were no more in power, the ANP did not find any point in opposing those parties, said Nasim Wali.

She said that the provincial executive council of ANP had asked the party’s parliamentary board not to announce the names of those who would be awarded the tickets for the election till the district organizations finalized seat adjustment deals.
