FAISALABAD, Aug 13: The government of Japan will donate Rs4 billion to the local district government for completing water supply projects.

A Wasa spokesman told newsmen on Tuesday that final touches were being given to the agreement for the provision of sweet water to citizens.

He said the donated amount would be spent on completing the project of laying pipelines in city localities and the installation of 12 tubewells on the Chenab river bed. With the completion of the task, citizens would get 40 cusec more water daily, he said.

The spokesman said that 25 tubewells installed in Chiniot were providing 92 cusec water daily as against the requirement of over 300 cusec water every day.

All out efforts, he said, were being made to provide sweet water and resolve sewerage problems of the people within shortest possible period.

He urged the people to deposit dues on time so that more and more development projects could be launched in the city.

FLEECING: Most of petrol pump owners and oil dealers have started fleecing vehicle owners by selling adulterated POL products with the alleged connivance of government agencies concerned.

During a round of the city, it is observed that managements of almost all petrol pumps in interior parts and on main roads have been supplying adulterated petrol, diesel and mobil oil. But the agencies concerned are playing the role of silent spectators.

Owing to the unprecedented hike in the prices of POL products during the last six months, petrol pump owners have started mixing kerosene oil in super petrol and diesel to fleece transporters.

Some petrol pumps are also found selling POL products at higher rates on the pretext that it was not ‘adulterated’.

Similarly, oil dealers transacting in wholesale have also reportedly selling adulterated mobil oil, kerosene oil, furnace oil, and other POL products with impunity.

UNEARTHED: The local police unearthed eight gambling dens and arrested 39 gamblers, including owners, on Monday night.

Special police teams raided gambling dens in Gulberg, Factory Area, Madina Town, Mansoorabad, Fatehabad, Sargodha Road, Rehmat Town and Hajveri Town.

All the arrested people were sent to jail after registering cases against them.
