ISLAMABAD, Aug 12: The Human Rights Cell of Pakistan People’s Party has written a letter to the Secretary-General of Commonwealth, Don McKinnon, apprising him of the measures taken by the government to prevent Benazir Bhutto from contesting the elections.

The letter written by Central Coordinator of the Human Rights Cell, Ms Fauzia Wahab enlisted five ordinances promulgated by the military which she said were aimed at sidelining Ms Bhutto.

“The PPP, being a responsible political party, fulfilled all the cumbersome requirements under th new laws, the regime however has come out with another trick to create hurdles and that is the re-allocation of the election symbols. It has asked the political parties to submit their applications for election symbols,” she said.
