ISLAMABAD, Aug 10 : Modern laboratories to test and improve the quality of wheat will be set up throughout the country so that it may procure maximum profit in the international market.

The decision was made at a meeting which was presided over by the chief executive’s adviser on food, agriculture and livestock, Shafi Naiz, here on Saturday.

The meeting also reviewed the working of the wheat committee and expressed satisfaction over the performance, especially for providing maximum financial benefits to the small farmers.

The efforts of the committee in smooth procurement of wheat in the country were appreciated and the meeting advised the committee to exploit new avenues to promote wheat and wheat related value added products in the country.

The meeting also asked the committee to lessen the burden of transportation expenditure on the government and the farmers.

It was also decided to monitor the situation that may arise subsequently to keep flour and wheat prices uniform at different consumption levels.

The meeting was convened to initiate a mechanism where the small farmers could make maximum use of their product and the private sector along with the government could be involved in the process of procurement of wheat.

The food and agriculture minister for NWFP, Abeelullah Jan, and other higher officials also attended the meeting.
