Mahmood to compete in Abu Dhabi

KARACHI, Aug 8: Country’s top chess star International Master Mahmood Ahmed Lodhi of PIA will be taking part in the Abu Dhabi International Chess Championship being held there from Aug 12-24.

Record ten-time national champion Mahmood is among the Grand Masters and IM invited from 22 countries to participate in the nine-round championship which will be played on swiss league system.

Gujranwala-based Mahmood won the Abu Dhabi International event in 1997 where he finished third in 1999.

Besides countries from Central Asian Republics and Gulf region, chess board masters from Bangladesh, India, Germany, France will be taking part in the championship.

Mahmood has been dominating Pakistan chess scene for over a decade also helped national carrier to win the National Team Chess Championship in 1997, 1998 and 1999.

Mhamood will leave for Abu Dhabi on August 11 to figure in the championship.—APP
