QUETTA, Aug 7: The irrigation department has stopped water supply from Hub Dam for irrigation and gates of all small canals have been closed due to acute water shortage in the dam.

“The dam is facing serious water shortage due to drought in Balochistan for the last four years,” an announcement of the department said on Wednesday.

The announcement said that in view of the situation, water would be available only for drinking and industrial use.

Karachi water supply canal would get water for three days a week while two days have been fixed for Lasbela canal. The water from Lasbela canal would be used in industries of Lasbela Industrial Estate Development Authority, Hub town and Gadani.

A spokesman said that the arrangements would continue until the situation improved.

Those found using Hub canal water for irrigation would face legal action, the spokesman said.
