SUKKUR, Aug 6: The District council, Sukkur, which met on Tuesday for the second consecutive day, called upon the government that the boards of secondary and intermediate education in Sindh be given under the district governments and restrict the authorities of the Board of Education from increasing various types of fees without the prior approval of the district government.

The debate started after a protest demonstration of the students who marched thorough the main roads of the city and later staged a demonstration in front of the district assembly, which was in session.

The students were protesting against the board officials who increased the fees by 200 to 300 per cent.

The district Nazim, Sukkur, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, met with the protesting students who complained that there was corruption and maladministration in the board and the fees were arbitrarily increased for obtaining various types of documents including mark sheets, certificates, enrolment forms, etc.

Several Nazims and councillors spoke on the occasion. Later, a unanimous resolution was passed calling upon the government of Sindh that the Boards of Secondary Education be given under the district government.

A team was constituted to investigate the corruption and malpractice which had been continuing for the last many years, specially in the Sukkur Board.

ZAKAT COMMITTEE: A session of the District Assembly was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the Naib Nazim, Haji Wazir Memon.

It called upon the government to disband the Zakat Committee as there were serious complaints regarding corruption and misuse of funds.
