HYDERABAD, Jan 16 Academic activities in Sindh University remained suspended on Saturday as Sindh People's Students Federation activists forcibly prevented point buses to reach the campus from different areas of the city.

SPSF and Jeay Sindh Students Federation (A) are embroiled in a dispute for the last couple of months after killing of JSSF worker Asad Abbasi in Mehran University of Engineering and Technology and subsequent murder of SPSF's Niaz Baloch, a student of Sindh Agriculture University, in Hyderabad.

Counter cases have been lodged by office-bearers of the two student organisations but the controversy has remained unresolved. Raza Brohi, Ishaq Brohi and Noman Behlai were booked in Abbasi murder case and Habib Bhutto was named in Baloch murder case. Majority of around 100 point buses did not reach the campus, affecting academic activities as mostly classes were not held due to absence of students.

The SPSF announced boycott of academic activities in the university till the culprits were brought to justice in Abbasi murder case. It said that no SPSF activist was involved in the murder.

According to SPSF president Sohrab Marri, they are protesting against registration of the murder case against activists of the organisation on the complaint of JSSF-A leaders. He said that SPSF activists were not involved in the murder of Abbasi.

SU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nazir A. Mughal in a statement expressed concern over stopping of point buses by political groups which resulted in disturbance at the campus.

He said that thousands of dedicated students were deprived of education by few irresponsible students, adding that each day of students was precious and important for their education.

He appealed to students and political groups to help the university provide quality education to students, and said that protests and stopping of point buses of students and employees harmed education and tarnished the image of the university at national and international level. He expressed the hope that parents, students and society would help the university management develop peaceful educational environmental.

Our Khairpur correspondent adds SPSF activists took out a rally here on Saturday to protest against the administration of the Sindh University and Shah Abdul Latif University.

The rally, led by SPSF district president Faqeer Zakir Hisbani, started from Panj Gulla Chowk and marched on different roads. The participants carried placards inscribed with different slogans against the administration of the two universities.

Talking to reporters at the press club, Mr Hisbani alleged that the administration of Sindh University and its vice-chancellor were playing a partisan role and SPSF activists were being subjected to excesses. He demanded removal of the vice-chancellors of both universities.
