LAHORE, Aug 5: Afghanistan has made a request to Pakistan for assistance in promoting sports in the war-affected country.

The Afghanistan Sports Board (PSB), through its government has requested Pakistan specifically for cricket and hockey coaches, necessary equipment for these sports and to arrange series of matches of various sports between the two countries, at home as well as in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has sought suggestions from various sports federations and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about the kind of assistance it can offer to Afghanistan in this context.

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) is ready to invite Afghanistan team for a five or six match series here and a formal invitation will be extended to them in a couple of days through the Pakistan Sports Board.

Last year, the Afghanistan cricket team participated in the national  domestic season which received the attention of the international media as it was the first Afghan Sports event after the Sept 11 incident.
