ISLAMABAD, Jan 5 Top seed Aqeel Khan annexed the men's singles title of the Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championship defeating younger brother second seed Jalil Khan in straight sets at the PTF Complex on Tuesday.

In the first set, Aqeel Khan took the winning 3-1 lead, breaking fourth game of Jalil and then won the first set 6-1, breaking eighth game with the help of double faults and a winner down the line.

Jalil was erratic in the first set and number of his returns went out.

In the second set, Jalil took 4-2 lead, breaking second and fourth game of Aqeel.

However, in the next game Jalil played excellently from the baseline and broke the eighth game of Aqeel to build up 5-3 lead.

Aqeel fought back and levelled the score 5-5 by breaking ninth game of Jalil and the score went up to 6-6 as both the players held their respective serves.

In the tie-break, Aqeel was in good form and won it 8-6.

He received winning trophy along with cash award of Rs45,000 whereas Jalil pocketed Rs30,000.

A total number of 177 players from all over the country participated in five different categories — men's singles and doubles, ladies singles, junior U-17 singles and boys' U-13 singles — of the event.

Mohammad Airf Qureshi, ITF White Badge Umpire, chaired the match.
