With concerted efforts for conducting sports events at school level, hockey can become popular once again: Islahuddin.—File photo by APP
KARACHI Hockey greats Olympian Islalahuddin Siddiqui and Sohail Abbas called for promoting sports activities at the grassroots level with emphasis on inter-school competitions to restore the lost glories.

They were speaking as guests of honour in the Annual Sports Day of the Educators School, Renaissance Campus, at the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Training and Coaching Centre here.

Former Federal Sports Minister and current Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Pir Syed Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani, was the chief guest in the presentation ceremony, presided over by Chairman, Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai.

Islahuddin said that with concerted efforts for conducting sports events at school level, hockey can become popular once again in the country.

Pir Aftab Shah complimented the students and staff of the school for the colorful sports gala.

Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Secretary Sports to the Government of Sindh, former Pakistan hockey captain Ahmed Alam, Olympian Iftikhar Syed, International Jan Mohammad, Grand Master Mohammad Ashraf Tai, World Universe Champion Atif Khan, shooting Olympian Khurram Inam, Director PSC Zulfiqar Abro were also present on the occasion who distributed the prizes among the outstanding athletes.—APP
