NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Aug 1: A women councillors’ conference was held at the District Council Hall, Naushahro Feroze, on Wednesday.

The conference was arranged by the Citizens Action Committee for Women Rights and was largely attended by female councillors, lady social workers, while the DCO, EDO, Education, Safina Jawaid, Adam Malik, programme coordinator Aurat Foundation, Sindh, and Malik Abdul Ghaffar were also present.

While appreciating the holding of the women councillors’ conference, they said such conferences be frequently held at the district and Taluka level for awakening of women and creating awareness regarding their rights.

The conference adopted a resolution demanding constituting a women’s committee for distribution of Zakat and Ushr fund amongst women.

It also demanded that women councillors be given a share in development works in their areas.

The conference criticized the distribution of scholarships and Rozgar funds from the Zakat funds and pointed out that out of 11 scholarships in Mithiani, 10 had been awarded under fictitious names. They demanded an enquiry regarding it.

Among those who addressed the conference were Ms Safina Jawaid, DCO, Naushahro Feroze, Malik Mohammed Naeem, Adam Malik, Abdul Shakoor Abbasi, Riaz Sohail, and Ghaffar Malik.
