RAWALPINDI, Dec 8 In the wake of the recent wave of bombings in different parts of the country, especially the Parade Lane mosque carnage, law enforcement agencies have decided to survey the city and prepare a new security plan.

The recent strikes by terrorists in high security zone in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar and Multan showed the ability of insurgents to strike high-profile targets in the hearts of cities.

A senior security official said they were confident in their security policy but wanted to further strengthen it and, therefore, would carry out a survey of the city, particularly official buildings, to come up with a new security plan.

Regional Police Officer Mohammad Aslam Tareen confirmed that the decision had been taken to carry out a survey of Rawalpindi and prepare a fresh security plan.

The RPO acknowledged that the “intensity of terror threat” had intensified after the terror strikes in Lahore on December 7.

“We want to further tighten security and there are various proposals like installation of scanners, gadgets and other devices,” he added.

Top police officials of Rawalpindi and Islamabad went into a session with government's security officials and discussed the security strategies on Tuesday.

It was decided to chalk out a joint security strategy with the Islamabad police and to launch a public awareness campaign through the media.

Security strategies with reference to Muharram were also discussed in the meeting.

Robbery Four gunmen entered the house of a retired army officer in Civil Lines and made off with Rs200,000 and gold ornaments valuing Rs500,000 on Tuesday, police said.

Zia Ghous, the son of Mr Ghous, a retired captain, told the police that the bandits entered his house and held the inmates hostage.
