Avatar in Pakistan

Published December 6, 2009

Remember Titanic? Yup, that epitome or paragon of romantic films. For a long time I was perplexed as to why the film's celebrated director James Cameron hadn't come up with another movie that could live up to Titanic's success or at least cement his position as one of the all time great film-makers. Well, despair not his next directorial venture, Avatar, is going to hit cinema screens on Dec 18 in the US, and the good news for us Pakistanis is that it will grace our cinema halls on new year's eve.

The film is said to be a big-budgeted project with expenditure crossing the $230m mark. It's a mix of action, adventure, romance and fantasy, created with the help of the most hi-tech computer generated images (CGIs).

Another interesting bit related to this news item is that known Indian director Karan Johar's much-anticipated My Name Is Khan's promo will be made public globally alongside Avatar on Dec 18. It's being touted as the first of its kind 'Hollywood-meets-Bollywood event'. Well, knowing K Jo, it may only turn out to be Bollywood-gaping-at-Hollywood event.
