HYDERABAD, July 29: The Nooriabad police claimed to have arrested two drug traffickers following a brief encounter as a result of which both were injured on the Super Highway on Sunday.

The SDI, Nooriabad, Anwar Durrani, said that two men, Tariq Arain and Sarfaraz, were headed for Hyderabad from Karachi in a car obtained from a rent-a-car show-room.

They were signalled to stop by the police near the police post-4 of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell but they did not stop and accelerated the speed of the car. The motorway police caught them on camera from which it was learnt that they were speeding at 186 kmph.

The SDI said that the Nooriabad police were informed through the wireless. Barricades were set up at the Hyderabad toll plaza on seeing which they reversed their vehicle and headed back towards Nooriabad.

The SDI and SHO Younus Baloch waited for them at the Hassan Jafar incline along with motorway police officials. On seeing them, the two men opened fire on the police and headed towards the mills area.

Police retaliated injuring both the men in the process. They also hit one of the car’s tyres. Soon both were arrested in the mills area.

The SDI said that samples of heroin and charas were found from their possession.

They were taken to the Liaquat Medical University Hospital, Jamshoro branch. Both were shifted to the Hyderabad Civil Hospital on Monday.

The police officials said that preliminary investigation revealed that they received orders from Hyderabad and then supplied narcotics in the market.

Two separate cases under sections 324 and 353 of the PPC and 9 of the Narcotics Act have been lodged against them.
