ISLAMABAD, July 26: An amount of Rs50 million has been disbursed among last year’s flood affected people in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, a member Punjab Bait-ul-Mal Department (PBMD), Dr Aslam told Dawn on Friday.

The official said PBMD had distributed Rs15 million and District Government Rawalpindi (DGR) paid Rs5 million to the flood victims.

He said the disbursement started in September, 2001 and was concluded this month. “As many as 6,000 families in the twin cities and other areas of Punjab have benefited from the monetary assistance of both DGR and the PBMD.

Responding to a query, he said 10 teams were appointed to draw up lists of flood affected people. These teams conducted a comprehensive survey of the relevant areas to prepare the lists.

In order to counter check the names, officials of both the DGR and PBMD contacted the affected people at their homes and later called them to their office for verification.

The official said Nazimeen, and respected people of the areas in different cities were also involved in distribution of funds to minimize the chances of foul play.

He claimed that all the cases filed by the people seeking financial assistance were entertained on merit and no injustice was done in any case

Dr Aslam said the survey teams evaluated the loss in each case and the funds were disbursed according to the loss suffered by the affected people.

The member PBMD said the DGR also released funds of Rs30million for 500 families, whose houses were damaged or demolished during the flood.
