HYDERABAD: DC body visits jail

Published July 26, 2002

HYDERABAD, July 25: The members of the prison committee of the Hyderabad District Council paid a visit to the local central jail and heard complaints of the prisoners here on Thursday.

The prisoners complained of their continued non-production in the courts and inordinate delay in disposal of their cases by different courts of law in the district.

The Jail officials told the committee members that against the required escort of 150 policemen, they received only 30 of them which subsequently contributed to the non- production of under trial prisoners in the courts. The visiting committee members were shocked to witness the dilapidated condition of the jail building.

They were live electric wires in the barracks, posing danger to the lives of prisoners, the members said.
