PESHAWAR, July 24: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said the autonomous educational institutions in the province must maintain their standard and make continuous efforts to update the quality of education being imparted by them.

Presiding over a meeting of the Board of Governors of Fazl-i-Haq College Mardan, here on Tuesday, he said both the government and the parents had great expectations from such institutions and they must adopt realistic approach in respect of staff recruitment and discharging the administrative and financial responsibilities.

The meeting after taking stock of the situation regarding the financial health and future scope of expansion in the college, approved the establishment of a girls secondary school as being part of the college and to be situated within its premises.

Besides, the meeting also approved creation of a riding school and authorized the college administration to purchase horses and other equipments for the purpose.

The meeting also approved the request of the college administration to recruit more staff to meet the additional requirements. The meeting also considered various measures to further improve working condition for the college staff.

ENVIRONMENT: The governor has described the environmental protection as one of the major issues, saying it needs to be tackled through a multi-pronged strategy.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting here on Tuesday which was also attended by Federal Minister for Envir-onment Barrister Shahida Jamil, provincial ministers Abbas Khan, Athar Minallah and others.

The governor said the government had set up a separate department headed by a minister to look after the environmental affairs.
