PESHAWAR, Nov 5: The governor of NWFP, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, on Monday said that Pak-China friendship is time-tested and that China has stood by Pakistan in every difficult hour.

In his brief remarks on the occasion of Chinese relief goods handing-over ceremony at Azakhel camp, Nowshera district, he thanked the government and people of China for their generous aid worth $2 million extended to the hapless Afghans at this odds hour.

The NWFP is hosting around two million Afghans and the changed scenario has forced a fresh influx of Afghans to Pakistan.

From 2,000 to 5,000 Afghans cross over to Pakistan through unfrequented and difficult routes daily, he added.

The governor called upon the international community to extend aid to Afghan refugees on sustained basis as Pakistan having limited resources was already over-burdened.

In the existing circumstances, Iftikhar said, Afghans needed maximum humanitarian aid and the international community must have to put its share in helping them out.

Earlier, the coordinating officer of the China embassy for relief measures said that the miseries of Afghans were untold and this had also put a burden on the economy of Pakistan.
