LAHORE, Sept 29 Former Olympian Khawaja Junaid has been reappointed head coach of the Pakistan junior hockey team along with two new assistant coaches Kamran Ashraf and Anjum Saeed till the 2012 Junior World Cup qualifiers.

“It is the best coaching combination and we have reposed confidence in Junaid who was also the head coach of the team which participated in the Junior World Cup in Malaysia-Singapore this year,” said Secretary, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Asif Bajwa at a news conference held here on Tuesday to announce the junior team management.

Junaid previously coached the team for almost four months from February last to May and the Pakistan team under his supervision finished fifth in the Junior World Cup.

Bajwa said Junaid produced satisfactory results during his short stint with the team which is why the PHF gave him the responsibility again.

“The junior team management has ample time to prepare the teams and they will be responsible for producing good results as they will be taking care of the team for almost three years,” he said.

“We firmly believe that the management will do its best to help the team qualify for the cup,” he added.

He said doctors Asad Abbas and Ajmal Khan will be the supporting staff attached with the team management.

Bajwa also said that the Pakistan U-18 team will take part in the U-18 Asia Cup in Myanmar from Nov 12. The U-18 Asia Cup is the qualifying round for the Youth Olympics to be held in Singapore in 2010.—APP
