COLOMBO, July 21: Sri Lanka off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan captured five for 39 on Sunday as Bangladesh succumbed to 161 all out on a rain-affected first day of the first Test.

At the close Sri Lanka were 32 without loss in reply after two hours play had been lost to rain during the afternoon.

Bangladesh opener Abdul Hannan Sarkar was the only batsman to make a significant contribution, striking eight boundaries in his 55.

He was dismissed leg before wicket by Sri Lanka captain and occasional left-arm spinner Sanath Jayasuriya just before lunch.

Bangladesh are still seeking their first Test win since becoming the 10th Test playing nation in 2000. The country has played 11 Tests, losing 10 and drawing one.
