HUB, July 19: Water supply to Karachi from Hub Dam may stop by the end of August as the dam is approaching the dead level due to the prolonged dry weather in its catchments, it was reliably learnt here on Friday.

Lasbela Irrigation Department sources said the current water level at the dam is 281 feet and the dead level of the dam is 276.25 feet — merely 5.25 feet less.

At present, Karachi is being supplied 38mgd water daily for drinking purpose whereas the areas of Lasbela district are getting 22mgd water for drinking, industrial and irrigation purposes, they said.

“Water being supplied to Karachi will stop when the dam level touches 278 feet because it is necessary to store some water for the people of Lasbela for their drinking purpose and also for units established at Lasbela Industrial Estate Development Authority (LIEDA),” they said.
