RAWALPINDI An apparently jilted young man shot dead his girlfriend in her house in Muslim Town here on Monday and then turned the pistol on himself and committed suicide, Sadiqabad police said.

Mohammad Imran, a resident of Lahore, came to 18-year-old M's house in the absence of her mother, and after exchanging some words with her pulled out a pistol and shot her dead.

The next moment he shot himself dead.

Preliminary police investigations suggested that Imran had been in love with M and wanted to marry her.

It was a tragic day for several other emotionally disturbed young persons.

Police said a 17-year-old girl and two other young boys attempted suicide by drinking poisonous substances in the city, police said.

Urusa Qamar, 17, took acid after being scolded by her father in Dhoke Ratta. She was removed to hospital where she is stated to be in critical condition.

Mohammad Anwar, 22, took excessive doze of tablets apparently to commit suicide in Dhoke Matkial but survived. He was shifted to the DHQ hospital where he is described in critical condition. Noman Khaliq, a resident of Tehli Moorhi took poisonous substance in his house. He was brought to the hospital where he is stated to be in stable condition.
