ISLAMABAD, July 15: Army’s Bushra Parveen broke the 800m national record to make the Pakistan team for the Aug 9 to 12 Asian Athletic Championship in Colombo.

Bushra bettered the record of Sajida Ramzan (2:11.6) by clocking 2:11.2 in the trials held at the Jinnah Stadium.

Another record also fell with 1500m runner Sumaira Zahoor of Army improving upon her own mark of 4:41.4 by being first across the finish in 4:45.0. She was however named among the reserves.

The selection committee of the Pakistan Amateur Athletic Federation (PAAF), which met under the chairmanship of Brig. Khalid Sajjad Khokhar after the trials chose the following team which is subject to availability of funds:

Men-Mumtaz Ahmed (Army, 110m hurdles), Zahid Hussain (Police, javelin throw), Tariq Mahmood (Wapda, high jump).

Reserves: Azhar Saleem (Army, discus throw), Abdul Rashid (Railways, 110m hurdles). Women- Bushra Parveen (Army, 400m, 800m), Erum Khanum (Police, 100m, 200m). Reserves- Bashiran Bibi (Railways, 400m hurdles), Sumaira Zahoor (Army, 1500m), Bazgah Sharmeen (Wapda, pole vault).
