GUJRANWALA, July 14: The Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association and Punjab Teachers’ Union have condemned the government’s decision to denationalize educational institutes and urged it to withdraw the ordinance.
The teachers organized a meeting under the chair of Itihad-i-Asataza Divisional President Prof Mukhtar Ahmad Cheema here on Sunday.
They said almost all the institutes would be handed over to their former proprietors and termed the act an attempt to close doors for the poor.
Apprehending hard times, the teachers said this step would add to the unemployment in the country. They threatened they would go on a province-wide protest, if the government did not take its decision back.
ALLOCATED: The government has allocated a sum of Rs10 million for the construction of an emergency centre and a burn unit at the District Headquarters Hospital.
This was stated by tehsil Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad ata meeting with Naib Nazimeen and councillors here on Sunday.
He said the burn unit was the need of the hour as the patients are currently referred to the Mayo Hospital. The construction of the unit and emergency centre would be started within this month, he said.
The tehsil Nazim said the government would allot more funds for the completion of these projects.
NOTICES: The DHQ Hospital’s newly-inducted medical superintendent on Sunday issued notices to all those medical officers who have yet to vacate residential quarters despite their transfer.
Reports said various specialists and the paramedical staff had occupied the quarters for long while some doctors, who had been transferred from the DHQ, had been using these quarters for private practice.
MS Dr Javed Ahmad has issued them notices to vacate these quarters. He has also apprised the high-ups of the illegal occupation.
