KARACHI, July 14: Thirteen vehicles — four cars and nine motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Sunday, police sources said.
One car was hijacked. Three others were stolen.
Two motorcycles were hijacked. Seven others were stolen.
KILLED: A man was shot dead near his Gulshan-i-Iqbal home on Sunday morning.
The police said that Aurangzeb, aged 32, was asleep on a pushcart near his Madina Colony home in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, when an unidentified assailant fired a bullet on his head. He died on the spot. The police sent the body to a hospital for post-mortem.
Aurangzeb was a dismissed policeman and a drug addict. The police were investigating the motive for the killing to find a clue to the killer/killers.
DROWNED: The body of a man was found near Seaview beach on late Saturday night. He was one of those fishermen who had gone missing when a fishing trawler capsized on Thursday.
The police said that the body was identified as that of Ghulam Hussain. The body was handed over to the dead man’s family after post-mortem.
Five fishermen swam to safety to Seaview beach. One of their colleagues is still missing. Their fishing trawler, Al-Ashrafi, capsized near the Lighthouse in the open sea on late Thursday night.
SECURITY: The Inspector-General of the Sindh Police, Syed Kamal Shah, has issued instructions to the Karachi police to observe red alert from Monday to ensure implementation of comprehensive security measures, PPI adds.
According to a press release issued here on Sunday, stringent security measures have been undertaken on all important buildings and roads, vital installations, government and semi-government offices. Besides, policemen in plain clothes are being deputed at different points in the city to keep watch on the activities of anti-social elements.
“These steps are aimed at maintaining law and order in the city and ensure security to the people,” the press release said.
The police have begun checking vehicles which pass through sensitive places in the city.
Helicopters will also be used as part of the security measures.
