PESHAWAR, Nov 2: Awami National Party has called for immediate halt to airstrikes in Afghanistan, urging the world community to expedite efforts for convening Loya Jirga to resolve the Afghan imbroglio amicably.

The ANP flayed that the US could not achieve its targets despite extreme use of air force for the last over three weeks resulting in killing a large number of civilians, further causing destruction, destroying hospitals and food godowns in the war-ravaged country.

In a press release issued on Friday, the ANP said that airstrikes should immediately be stopped and the world community should work together to find out a political solution to the crisis.

A large number of Afghan, the press release said, were heading towards Pakistan and other neighbouring countries fleeing US attacks, hence in this situation there was a greater need to help Afghans convene Loya Jirga (elders’ council) to find out a widely-accepted negotiated solution to the Afghan conflict.
