KALAYA, July 8: The Water and Power Development Authority on Monday suspended electricity supply to the lower Tehsil of Orakzai Agency over the refusal of the tribesmen to let power meters installed in the area.

The residents of the area announced that they would launch a protest movement against the suspension of power supply to some parts of the agency, as the Wapda staff closed one feeder of the Kalaya grid station to force the tribesmen to agree to the installation of power meters.

The consumers in the lower tehsil of the agency, including Kalaya, Darra Manikhel, Kalaya Syedan, Ibrahimzai, Kalat and others faced problems due to the suspension of the electricity supply.

Wapda officials told Dawn that the authority had planned to suspend power supply to other parts of Orakzai Agency in the next few days.

The residents announced that they would protest against the suspension of electricity as the meter installation drive had already been started in these parts of the agency. ONE KILLED: One person was killed and two others sustained serious injuries as two tribes, Sheikhan and Mashti, clashed over a petty dispute.

The deceased was identified as Nageen Khan. The two tribes were engaged in a fierce gunbattle till the filing of this report.
