KARACHI, July 6: In pursuance of directives of the Sindh governor, a meeting of the restructuring sub-committee was held here on Saturday under the chairmanship of ACS (Development) Shahzado Shaikh.

Sub-committee members said that since water supply and sewerage was an essential service, there was a need for setting up a separate department.

The organogram prepared by the City government in consultation with the managing director of the KWSB was discussed in detail and was cleared with certain amendments.

The sub-committee members said the KWSB had to be devolved as per the SLGO 2001 and devolution had to be supported by decentralization and deregulation of functions and authorities.

The sub-committee members also advised the Provincial Local Government Department to approach the competent authority for necessary amendments in the SLGO 2001 for setting up departments of water and sewerage for the city government.

The meeting was attended, among others, by the city Naib Nazim, the DCO of Karachi, the additional secretaries of Finance, Communication and Works.—PPI
