BANGUI, July 4: A Sudan Airways cargo plane crashed into a residential district of the Central African Republic capital of Bangui on Thursday and around 20 people were killed, witnesses said.
“We saw around 20 bodies in the wreckage of the plane. There was one survivor who was wounded and was carried away,” said one witness.
He said he saw the markings of Sudan Airways on parts of the wreckage.
The plane crashed short of the main airport of Bangui, hitting a heavily-populated market district.
A source at the regional air authority’s office said the plane had been bound for Congo Republic’s capital Brazzaville, but had tried to land at Bangui due to technical problems.—Reuters
