PESHAWAR, July 3: An under-trial prisoner in the central prison died early Tuesday for “lack of proper treatment”.

Fazlur Rehman, son of Faqir Mohammed, was referred to the Lady Reading Hospital four days ago. He was given some antibiotics and sent back.

“The prisoner was very much weak and could not even talk. Yet he was not admitted to the hospital,” said a prison official.

According to the official, a doctor at the prison had mentioned in the death summary that the UTP had died due to his non-admission to the hospital.

Prison Doctor Jawed Iqbal confirmed that the prisoner was sent to the LRH by him on June 28 as his treatment inside the prison was not possible.
