Two die of cholera

HARIPUR, July 2: At least two people died and several were hospitalized as cholera broke out in Jab and Tarar villages near Khanpur.

According to reports reaching the district headquarters on Tuesday, Rubina, daughter of Mohammad Akram, complained of dysentery and died on the way to hospital. The doctors said she had died of gastro-enteritis.

Another person of Tarar village also died of dehydration.

As the wells are the main source of water supply to the villages, health officials believe that the epidemic might have broken out due to bacteria in the water. They said a large number of people of other villages had also been sick.

It was confirmed that over a dozen people had been shifted to the DHQ hospital, where they were stated to be in a stable condition.

The health department officials administered vaccine to over 1,200 people in the villages. The sources said that the situation was under control.
