SUKKUR, July 2: Bereaved sisters of Qadu Junejo, a notorious dacoit burnt alive during Monday’s encounter with police, have complained that police were not handing over body of their brother despite the passage of more than 24 hours.

Haseena and Marvi were seen running from pillar to post, to receive the body, before approaching newsmen who visited the scene of the encounter, near village Mang Taggar, on Tuesday amid a heavy presence of police force.

There has been no ward so far on the part of police as to when the charred body would be handed over to the bereaved.

Qadu Junejo was among about 10 notorious dacoits who fought a day-long battle with police. During the encounter, he and another dacoit had to take refuge in a straw-made house and police set it on fire. Both the criminals burnt alive, police claimed later.

Haseena and Marvi told newsmen that his brother was taking care of them after the death of their father long ago. They said that their relatives had killed their mother in a 15-year-old enmity and Qadu stood up to take revenge. His crusade, they added, turned him into a hardened criminal.

The bereaved sisters said that their enemies had provided information to the police about the outlaws’ movement which led to the encounter.

Meanwhile, the police party led by the AIG, Nayyar Husnain, during the visit to the scene of encounter, has received a ‘chit’ addressed to the DPO of Ghotki and written by another notorious dacoit, Nazroo Narejo. The chit has warned police of dire consequences if they did not stop operation against the dacoit and harassment to his family.
