You have been playing games online, how about actually creating one yourself? If that sounds creative — read on!
First, let`s take a look at Sploder.com. This site lets users use the available tools and techniques to either design a platform or a shooting game. Platform games are traditional horizontal scroll games that remind us of the once-popular Dave series of games, while shootings are arena-based games where characters move in a room-type environment battling out against each other till one of the factions is eliminated.
Select `Shooting Game`, this allows further selection between a ground war through robots, or space war through spaceships. Select the robotic type and try designing the game using drag and drop-based game editor; by default, a game arena is presented in which different available items can be placed. These include allied robots that follow your main character in the game, enemy robots and weapons like missiles, bombs and mines, along with infrastructure design props like walls, doors and their corresponding opening keys.
The real twist in this game creation comes from the sheer number of possibilities in which war trough can be designed placing obstacles, advanced weapons, such as turret and tanks, at strategic places. To get a taste of the game while designing, press Test at the top and see how the game behaves. If you have placed bombs and missiles, walking them over makes your robot pick them up. Robots fire these special weapons using the keys staring from Z and continuing to the right (X, C, V, etc.). Similarly, creating spaceship allows placing wingman, cruiser, speeder, guard and other health boosters, in addition to the invincibility shields, in the arena to be picked up during the game play.
Creating platform games is even more fun. Drop the main character and fill in the horizontal plane with all that it needs to pack firepower into the game. With cool sound effects and snappy graphics, the time it takes to unleash creativity is worth it, considering games that can be shared between users and also shared through email.
One of the good things about Sploder is that it is easy, has a range of items for creating different mixes of games, and there is no time to be wasted defining controls. Character runs through arrow keys, fire through Space key; some special actions are performed through Shift key and finally weapons changing and use of other abilities are performed through key Z onwards as mentioned above.
Another similar but more basic game for those who like to perform some basic car manipulation is Create Ride. Choose a basic car model here and play around with its modification features such as colour, road clearance height, while types and sizes, body kit, spoilers, exhausts, window tints, etc., and finally bring up these cars in an auto show!

Some other sites to try for game creation are gamescene.com, pictogame.com and classtools.net that allow similar functionality. The web indeed is an exciting place and with high speed connectivity and advanced technologies, more complex sites such as ones that let users create their own creative content have become more common and fun. Keep learning!
