HYDERABAD, March 31 Services rendered by noted scholar late Dr Abdul Wahid J. Halepoto for the promotion of Islamic Studies were eulogised during a seminar held to discuss his life and work at the Shaikh Ayaz auditorium, University of Sindh, Jamshoro. Dr Halepoto was the founder of the Department of Comparative Religion and Islamic Culture.

Former caretaker Sindh chief minister Justice (retd) Abdul Qadir Halepoto said that Dr Halepoto was a simple but genius man always helping and guiding young scholars. He was a man of letters who strived in furthering Shah Waliullah`s philosophy and message, he said.

Dr Halepoto belonged to lower middle class family and was aware of the problems poor people faced and toiled for educating people of his native area by opening schools, he said.

Pro-Vice Chancellor, Sindh University, Prof Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh praising his services said that Dr Halepota was not only a scholar but also a great teacher and a beacon to younger generations. He used to help scholars even from foreign countries, she said.

She announced the establishment of a corner at the Allama I.I. Kazi Library after Dr Halepota`s name and asked his family to help in providing his personnel items for it.
