HYDERABAD, March 26 Noted linguist and research scholar Prof Dr G.A. Allana has underlined the need for rewriting history of Sindhi literature and said that history of Sindhi as a language starts from second century or even earlier.

Delivering a lecture on History of Sindhi Poetry organised under “Professor Muhrram Khan Lecture series” by the Department of Sindhi of the University of Sindh on Wednesday, Dr. Allana said that folk literature was older than poetry. Geographical maps of earlier times showed Iran`s eastern area part of Sindh as was Kashmir, he said.

He said that under Soomra and Sama period Sindhi spread far and wide because of rulers` patronage. Researchers had failed to fix the period when the Sindhi language took shape but history showed that Sindhi had been in existence in the second century, he said.

He said that Rig Ved and Ganans were also sources for tracing history of Sindhi, he said, adding, that subject of Ganan was taught at Harvard University and anyone could study it.

He said that researchers would be required to study Sindhi folk literature and also search for material produced in different periods in order to be able to rewrite history of Sindhi.

Sindh University Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui said that element of doubt had always spurred people to go for research to find out facts.

He said that geographical pull and push factors identified people`s mobility and researchers could identify sociological and geographical influences on people of east and south of Sindh and on Sindhi language.

He said that people usually migrated from drought-hit areas towards green belts and there was need for research on it from socio-geographical perspective.

SEMINAR Pakistan generated only 425 megawatts electricity from nuclear energy, which was just 2.3 per cent of the country`s electricity needs, said Dr Naeem Ahmed Leghari, director of the Nuclear Institute of Medicine and Radiotherapy, on Thursday.

Speaking at a seminar on “Peaceful Atomic Programme of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Opportunities for Graduating Engineer” at the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology campus, Dr Leghari said there was a huge scope for safe and reliable utilisation of nuclear energy in Pakistan.

He said that with the operation of Chashma-2 power plant electricity generating capacity would increase to 725 MW and growth rate would increase with the adoption of sustainable energy security plan of PAEC.

He shared information on various academic programs being offered by PAEC.
