ISLAMABAD Senator Enver Baig, member of the ruling Pakistan People`s Party has quit his position as the chairman of the party`s Committee for Co-ordination on Foreign Affairs, BBC Urdu reported on Tuesday.

Speaking to the foreign news agency, the Senator confirmed the news of his resignation and said he felt he had no further role to play in the party.

Although the Senator did not disclose the reason behind his resignation, he said `I have provided the reasons in the resignation letter, a copy of which will soon be provided to the media.`

Previously, the Senator had openly condemned the disqualification of the Sharif brothers and imposition of governor rule in Punjab. The abolishment of the Punjab government had led to instability within the ruling party and raised fears that a `third hand` may get involved in government matters, the Senator added.

The outgoing PPP member expressed concerns over the current political situation and said that although the party leadership must have made these decisions with some hindsight, they would lead to unwanted confrontation.
