HARIPUR, June 25: About 150 women councillors belonging to 44 union councils of Haripur announced their joining the newly-formed Councillor Ittehad here on Monday.

The announcement in this respect was made at a convention of women councillors held at tehsil assembly hall. District councillor Eidun Nisa presided over the convention.

The convention which was held to discuss the problems being faced by the women representatives of the district, was largely attended by women councillors.

Speaking on the occasion, Eidun Nisa, who was elected vice-president of the Councillor Ittehad, lamented the indifferent attitude of male councillors, particularly tehsil and district Nazimeen, who according to her, tend to ignore women councillors in allocation of discretionary funds.

She said although it had been claimed that women had been given 33 per cent representation in the local bodies system, development schemes and other projects presented by women were not given priority and often dropped altogether. Women were even denied their share in the development schemes being carried out under the Khushal Pakistan Programme, she added.

Ms Nisa said women councillors were taken into account only when their male counterparts needed their support.
