KOHAT, Jan 28 Security forces repulsed an attack by militants from the Orakzai Agency on checkposts in Darra Adamkhel with heavy artillery shelling on Wednesday.

Fighter planes made low flights over Darra Adamkhel and the Orakzai Agency for the first time since the start of the operation against militants.

Official sources said militants who had been chased out from Darra Adamkhel a few months ago fired on security checkposts in the mountains from the Bundar area of Orakzai early in the morning. The security forces countered the attack with heavy artillery fire from Kohat, targeting suspected hideouts of militants.

Meanwhile, routine search operations continued in the Tor Chapar area where more than a dozen militants had been killed a couple of days ago in an operation by the security forces.

ARRESTED The Kohat police claimed to have arrested 70 suspects, including 18 proclaimed offenders, during operations in different parts of the district on Wednesday.

A huge quantity of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the arrested people, who were handed over to the special investigation team for interrogation.

Police seized eight Kalashnikovs, four Kalakovs, 13 rifles, 15 shotguns, 4,000 cartridges and 18 kilograms of hashish.
