LARKANA, Jan 21 Police arrested the much dreaded bandit Sultan Chandio after an encounter near Mehar on Wednesday.

Presumed as a terror in Qambar-Shahdadkot and Dadu districts and wanted in over 30 cases of kidnapping, murders and encounters with the police, the injured bandit was admitted to Chandka Medical College Hospital here on Wednesday.

The sources said that he was involved in kidnapping of two bank officers of Larkana, Fazal Rabi Shaikh and Abid Abro, near Khairpur Nathan Shah. He was also nominated in the murder case of an Assistant Sub-Inspector of police Noor Ahmed Panhwar and causing injuries to head constable Wazeer Kalhoro on Tuesday near Warah.

Reports from Warah said that Sultan Chandio was the key character in the murder of five persons near Warah about two months ago and was active in Qambar-Shahdadkot district.

Police had arrested Sultan Chandio from Janveri village.

Talking to journalists in the casualty department of CMCH Larkana, he said after arresting him, police opened fire on him from a close range and threw him into a pond. He feared police might kill him.
