KABUL, June 18: US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad said on Tuesday Afghanistan’s Loya Jirga must have the final say on President Hamid Karzai’s key cabinet posts.

“Based on the Bonn agreement, the government personnel have to be proposed by the president and approved by the Loya Jirga,” Khalilzad told reporters on the sidelines of the traditional assembly, called to form a new government and lead the country out of 23 years of war.—Reuters
