VEHARI, June 18: Police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested 50 people, including some schoolchildren, on the charge of selling prize bond numbers in various parts of the district.

A police spokesman said the team conducted raids in Chak 9-11/WB, People’s Colony, Danyal Pirmurad and adjoining areas and arrested the accused while selling prize bond numbers.

A number of schoolchildren and women were also involved in the business, the spokesman claimed.

It is alleged police had arrested ‘small fish’ in the business and had given free hand to ‘big guns’.

When contacted, a police official told this correspondent that some dealers fled before the raids. However, he said all of them would be arrested soon.

Some of the sellers had even shifted their business to houses, he concluded.
