SARGODHA, June 11: At least six people — four girls taking the intermediate examination, as well as the superintendent and her deputy — were taken to the district headquarters hospital on Tuesday after the roof the examination centre at the Government Intermediate College for Girls, Block 23, collapsed at around 4pm.

Most of the candidates, had fortunately already left.

While the superintendent was admitted to the hospital, others were relieved after treatment.

The roof had caved in under the debris of the under-construction wall of the adjoining building which collapsed earlier in the storm. The building is owned by Shaheen Mughal, a leader of the Jamiat Ulema Islam (Sami Group), reportedly a cousin of the tehsil Naib Nazim Mirza Muhammad Ilyas.

Sources said 32 students had taken the examination at the centre on Tuesday.

The injured students were not identified. The superintendent and the deputy superintendent were Rifat and Musarrat, respectively.

Education board officials the tehsil Naib Nazim visited the scene about two hours after the incident. A board official said some of the answer sheets were missing.
