ISLAMABAD, June 10: Chairman Wapda, Lt Gen Zulfiqar Ali Khan, has been appointed as Chef-de-Mission of the 64-member contingent to represent Pakistan at the Commonwealth Games at Manchester.

Dr Abdul Waheed Mughal, Deputy Director, Pakistan Sports Board, will be Deputy Chef-de-Mission as Pakistan compete in 13 disciplines at the Commonwealth Games, starting from July 25, the PSB Director General, Brig Saulat Abbas, said Monday.

The contingent for the Commonwealth Games will be finalised “by name” within the next week or so, according to an official of Pakistan Sports Board.

Pakistan Olympic Association wanted to send a 98-member contingent to the Commonwealth Games but the number was drastically slashed due to financial constraints, according to the Director General.

Pakistan is to compete at the Commonwealth Games in the disciplines of athletics, swimming, boxing, cycling, hockey, squash, table tennis, badminton, shooting, judo, weightlifting, wrestling and gymnastics.—APP
