RAWALPINDI, Oct 30: President of Christian Liberation Front (CLF) Shahbaz Bhatti has written a letter to President General Pervez Musharraf suggesting him to set up a judicial commission to probe into the Bahawalpur incident.

In a press statement here on Tuesday, the CLF leader said the local administration of Bahawalpur be asked to arrest the perpetrators without any delay.

The CLF leader suggested that all extremist and militant organizations should be banned and offices closed down.

He said steps should be taken to foster sense of security and confidence among minorities.

He expressed the fear that this incident was perpetrated by those who wanted to create religious strife between Muslim and Christian communities. He said the Bahawalpur incident had created a sense of insecurity among the minorities, especially Christians.

Mr Bhatti said the deprived religious minority in the present situation felt suppressed in their own homeland. He said minorities had been supporting the government and its policies nationally and internationally. He assured the president of the support of the Christians.

APP ADDS: Bishop of Islamabad and Rawalpindi Anthony Lobo, while condemning the attack on a church in Bahawalpur, said the entire nation was grieved over this tragic incident.

“From the president to a common Muslim, everyone has expressed deep sorrows and sympathies with the Christian community over the killing of innocent people in a church at Bahawalpur,” he said.

He said the government was investigating to apprehend the culprits and award them exemplary punishment.

The Bishop called upon all the people to live with peace and harmony and don’t give reply of an evil with the same way.
