LAHORE, June 6: Five children were buried alive and their mother was injured when the roof of a room in a factory in Gujjarpura collapsed late on Wednesday night.

Rani Bibi, a widow, were asleep with her five children when the roof of the room caved in on them due to a heavy rain.

It took the area people two hours to dig the family members out of the rubble, as the rescue efforts were marred by a power breakdown.

On arrival at a nearby hospital, the children, named as Rubi, 11, Shahzad, 8, Babar, 6, Zanib, 3, and one-year-old Zahid, were pronounced dead. The condition of their mother was stated to be stable.

Rani Bibi had been living in the room after the death of her husband six months ago. Her another son, Amjad, is the watchman of the factory that belongs to Irfan.

Amjad was said to be in Faisalabad to attend a marriage ceremony when the tragic incident occurred.
