LARKANA, April 22: The Waleed police here on Monday registered an FIR against eight persons, including Larkana Central Prison superintendent Manzoor Ahmed Memon, in the torture case of an under-trial prisoner, Sajjad Bozdar.
The duty officer at the Waleed police station told Dawn that Aijaz Bozdar, the brother of UTP Sajjad Bozdar, had lodged the FIR under section 324, 336, 337-A-1, 220 and 109 PPC following the orders of Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench.
The others who were nominated in the FIR included six police constables of the central prison and an under-trial prisoner.
The police constables were identified as Nadir Abro, Qurban Shahani, Ammanullah Mashori, Mumtaz Bhatti, Wazeer Chandio and Imam Bakhsh Golo.
According to the police, the complainant alleged that his brother, the UTP, was tortured inside the jail by the jail superintendent and others on the instigation of UTP Ali Hassan Bozdar.
The UTP, who had lost power in the lower limbs and received injuries in the right eye, was admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital.
The duty officer said that the matter had been handed over to the investigation wing of the police.
